Question for Discussion Thread while reading:
Baszile argues that the official school curriculum "is inescapably political in that it works to empower some groups while disempowering others" (p. 10) What responsibility do teachers have to fight the norm of racial profiling, low achievement, as well as low expectations of students? Describe any ideas and experiences you have helping students of varied backgrounds receive the same respect, compassion, and accountability as do privileged students?
